Thumbs down Big dissapointment for those waiting on Fujimi's DeTomaso Pantera

This may already be common knowledge but I had stupidly assumed that Fujimi's New DeTomaso Pantera was actually a NEW kit.

I just looked at the kit contents at Hobby Search and saw that it's just an old, previously motorized kit with a new box

Body looks ok but interior and chassis look crap.

Regards, Dan

Re: Big dissapointment for those waiting on Fujimi's DeTomaso Pantera

Well, glad I have the Tokyo Marui kit. Does look like there is some new tooling for chassis/suspension/brakes, and the typical "new" Fujimi interior bucket.

If this is truly an old kit, which one is it? It's not the Tokyo Marui kit. Ever since seeing photos of the mockup at the hobby show, I was struck by how "vintage" the body shape was. It didn't seem to capture the shape particularly well, and seeing builtup photos I see a lot of halo effect in the glass. It's better than having no Pantera, but it certainly doesn't live up to current model standards, but Fujimi has been lowering their standards while raising their prices. Pity that Hasegawa or Aoshima didn't do an all-new tool of the Pantera.

Big missed opportunity for Fujimi.

Tokyo Marui kit is still king for a Pantera build.

It looks like the resin Pantera they issued a few years ago, right down to the chassis (but with better brakes).

I'll still get one. At least the body and the interior is usable, and the wheels are nice.

It IS an all new kit.

It's not a previously released motorized kit.

Body and chassis look good like new fujimi. They just seem to lack any other decent details:/ Can't wait to get mine!

Re: Big dissapointment for those waiting on Fujimi's DeTomaso Pantera

Since it's a curbside kit, it actually looks fine to me. As long as the body is more accurate than the Marui kit, I'll get one, but I'll wait for the Delxue version with PE for a better value. I wish this level of curbside kit can be bought for less than 2000 yen, instead of Y4000. The best price I found was Y2740 (less than two movie tickets in Tokyo), and that's still too much especially when Yen is over-valued.

Fujimi kits are becoming nothing more than a good body and a decent jump off. This is how I always felt about the old Honda kits - Integras, Civics - fun to build, good looking bodies, but you really had to massage the interiors and suspensions to make anything passable. It looks like this kit has the bummer suspension, like their new Porsche kit, which is really the biggest problem to me. An interior you can fix easily (usually), a suspension fix is a major PITA.

I bet the Tokyo Marui kit made 35 years ago is more accurate and more detailed. I don't trust Fujimi.

Wow...My appologies to those I may have misled, but if this is the current state of a new Fujimi kit then I think thats a pretty sad state of affairs.... It looks more like a new kit from 1972 not 2012.

It probably goes a long way to explaining why I have a Revell Ferrari 458 and Mercedes SLS in my collection instead of the fujimi versions

Regards, Dan

I agree with you. I was impressed with your Pantera and bought the same kit on eBay. I also have kept all photos of your Pantera.
There is the contents of that Tokyo Marui kit.

Here that can turn out from this kit.

Re: Big dissapointment for those waiting on Fujimi's DeTomaso Pantera

I found a Japanese blog that compared the Fujimi and the Marui Pantera kits:

http://elian.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/.../gts-52d3.html

If you want a Pantera and don't already have a Marui kit, I don't see why the Fujimi one wouldn't make a good base. The Japanese modeller actually thinks the Fujimi one looks more like a Pantera. The glass is problematic though.

As for the Marui kit, good luck finding one for less than what the Fujimi costs. I bought 2 from Japan last year, with postage factored in they came at $75 US a pop.
