Back from long hiatus: Fujimi 1/24 Skyline 350GT

It has been certainly over a year since I have completed a model. Heck, I think it has been close to two years since I have worked on a model! I had 2 free days this week, and decided that it would be total waste of a year if I have not built at least one model...so I picked up an easy Fujimi curbside and build it just to get into the swing of things...Took me total of 16 hours to build - pretty good (even though too very simplified) kit.

Nevermind that it has 4x4 stance, I was too lazy to tinker with that, plus I really wanted just to FINISH something, totally box stock. I did add tire valves, p/e rear emblem, and cut out front inlets and replaced molded mesh with real thing though.

For a 16 hour build this is a flawless job! How I wish I could build something in 16 days anymore. Although the suspension is stock I still think its pretty close to the factory car, probably less than a 1mm drop at the back.

Look who's back! Well it's not totally fair to say "back" since you haven't left for that long... And with a nissan! Wow! Nothing much to comment really, standard Alex territory. But there're two things that did shocked me which were, well first, a nissan... and 16 hours to get this? You'd at least rust a little bit after a long break... Welcome back my friend! Say hello to Michael~~~~

I think that paint cant cure so quick but its most beautyful 350 skyline I´ve seen built. it looks ok with that height it improoves that stock-ish look. I like it very much

Well, if you think about it, 16 hours is quite a bit of time, that's two work days!

Zero paints color coats dry in 5-7 minutes tops, the thinner the coat, the faster it dries, but I'm yet to see one that took more than 10 minutes. So, coat of primer, sand, first coat of paint 30 minutes later, sand down, another one 10 minutes later, then 2K clear, and it can be polished in less than two hours. So yeah, with Zero paints you can prime, paint, clear and polish a model car body in about 3 hours or less.

Thanks everyone!

I know, but I still think that's a very short time. It would take me much longer to build a kit like this.

What brand of clear do you use?

Thanks! I never really stopped (in my mind :-)), the most trivial reason really - work, family, etc. For the last two years I was trying to change my career a little bit - so I went back to school full time, etc.

I use Dupont Chromaclear, but my trick is to use almost twice as much hardener AND thinner than required. More hardener means clear cures MUCH faster and more thinner means it is still flowing like it should, and levels beautifully. I literally start polishing it in less than two hours after painting, and its hard as rock. The only disadvantage is that it is much harder to polish since it is much harder coating.

Thank you all!
