Varis/Gforce Evolution X

Here's something I'm working on. its my first time using a transkit so I wanted to get started on this right away. I am trying to replicate this car, the gforce evo x:



Started with the Aoshima evo x kit:


and the hobby design transkit which I will try to do a detailed review on at a later time:


but unfortunately I got the early version which uses a varis front chin spoiler instead of the full bumper that comes in the later hobby design transkit (which matches the gforce evo x's front bumper) oh well close enough.

first thing I noticed is the side skirts are too short due to resin shrinkage I think. so I had to work on that first:



and then the front bumper mounting did not match and a corner of the front bumper was chipped off so I had to rebuild that:


then the varis evo x hood was not included in the kit so I had to build that using the stock evo hood:



mock up. I'm still undecided if I'll use the advan wheels that came with the HD transkit or go with the te37s like the gforce evo


canards look a little weird


and then its time for carbon fiber application. good thing I have a bunch of crazy modeller carbon fiber decal. the decals are too bright though and need a smoked clearcoat.

hopefully I can finish all the carbon fiber work by this week. still need to do the left side doors, rear diffuser, side skirts and front chin spoiler.

Great Work so far!!! I prefer the Transkit wheels, but thats jus me
Hobby Design really need to sort out their resin, Ive had recent problems with a Lambo LP640 transkit where all the parts had srunk, the rear bumber had srunk 4mm!!!! Thats Massive!!! Its 100mm or 4inches in 1:1 scale!!!
However to their credit they did send me replacement parts that were new & fitted correctly!

countach79, thanks! seems like the cwest evo x is a rare kit these days, been trying to get my hands on one.

da ashman, wow lucky you got a replacement that fits. 4mm shrinkage is massive. looks like they might have added a bit more catalyst to speed up the resin curing causing the shrinkage. I do have the tommykaira r35 to work on after this and I can already see shrinkage in the rear diffuser

really beautiful! makes the carbon very well, what do you use to take the shape of the doors and hood?

Looks really good. Carbon came out nice and i agree needs to be smoked.

thanks wontonkiller, nope no other plans for mods aside from possibly reworking the cannards which looks too thick and out of scale.

thanks midmazar, yup I'll probably cover the whole car in a coat of clear first to protect the decal before masking for smoke clear

2nd attempt at the front chin spoiler and it's not the greatest application but I'll live with it. still need to do the flat part that goes into the vents.



side skirts and front chin spoiler is done. should be done with the body this week.

zerocool.666, sorry not sure if I understood your question if you are asking about the decal itself then its made by crazy modeller.


update time!

almost forgot the side vents that varis is famous for. still need to do a bit of clean up though



working on the carbon fiber wing. this was a tough one. the wing was 6 pieces and the stands will be 2 pieces each


first attempt at the volk racing bronze color and its too dark. its a mixture of different alclad metal finishes.

time for some more updates and the carbon fiber work is finally done. I had to save the hardest parts for last, the rear diffuser and really tiny cannards.

rear diffuser was done using 5 separate pieces:


the cannards was torture. I had to thin them down first before applying the decals:


body has now been masked for smoked clear, I will go with another brand of CF decal next time so I can skip this step:

As I was reading I thought the CF was too light so I agree with applying smoke, look forward to seeing the outcome.

thanks hiroboy, was finally able to apply tamiya TS71 smoke but its definitely too much work, I'll go for a correct shade of CF decal next time so I can skip the smoke clear step.
