Mine was a 1965 VW beetle. That was the year that they upsized to the 1300 engine. (in case your wondering, I bought it used - I'm not that old!) But it still had cruddy 6v electrics.

First car was an 89 cutlass with a quad 4 - traded it for my brothers 76 super beetle (bad bad bad idea - well not really the cutlass' tranny went out but the beetle is still fine) Then I got a truck... then I inherited a sable... now I have far too many cars.

A new 1970 Grabber Blue Mustang with a base 302 V8 and steel wheels with hubcaps shod with G70-14 Polyglas. During my first summer with it, I yanked the base 302 and replaced it with an orphaned Cleveland "Boss" 302 hooked to a 4-speed with Hurst T shifter, posi 4.11 rear.
Kept the steel wheels and quiet exhaust. No markings other than a flat black comp stripe down the hood. No shaker - used twin cold air tubes to the air cleaner. Plain Jane interior - only tip-off was the Hurst. A total sleeper that kept me in beer when some boy racer thought he was picking on a base Mustang. It fell victim to Buckeye Body Rot after only 3 years. OPEC turned off the spigot, gas went sky high and I couldn't give it away. Eventually sold it to a used car dealer for only a thousand bucks. |

Re: Your first car
1981 oldsmobile regency 98.
bought it for 500 from a pregnant young lady who needed money badly. once painted and shod with some chrome wheels for about 1500 total, I sold it for 3500. Turns out it had a 403 out of a 78 toronado becasue the origional owner didn't like the stock engine (diesel). the fastest 5,000lb car I ever drove.
