Tinting Question

I don't know much about tinting, but I pretty much know that you have a plastic film that you squigee (sp?) on to your windows after they've been cleaned really good.

My question is what levels are legal, and do people use highly reflective (think 1 way mirror) at all? I don't care too much about darking as much as reducing the UV and heat coming in. I'd like to avoid cops pulling me over, too.

Thanks!

edit... Here's an example of the different things I'm looking at, specifically the R-20 stuff. Here's an example of the applications of the reflective stuff.

Re: Tinting Question

in Connecticut (the state you have listed in your profile), the darkest tint you can have on your front and back side windows is 35% and any tint can be applied to your rear window. to be totally legal you also need a sticker from the state certifying that your tint is not darker than 35%.

Re: Tinting Question

Now does that mean 35% of the light coming in? Or do they care more about being able to see into the car? I'd like to have the effect of having mirrors for windows.

Thanks!

Re: Tinting Question

yes, it means that the windows with tint applied should have 35% or greater light transmittance. All tint sold should list its light transmittance.

Re: Tinting Question

Sounds good .... I'm guessing you have to take the windows out to do it properly, or get a shop to do it for you. Know any good guides or brands to get that sort of thing? Oh, and how much does a full (all windows) tint job cost if done yourself?

Thanks for all the help drdusque!
