Tranmisson Problems

When i first start my 91 6cylinder trooper the Check Transmission light appears for a few seconds.Recently my tranmissoin hasn't been shifting i have to manually shift it to go anywhere. This has happened be4 but now i fear this may be permanet. Also i have trouble puttin it in 4wd and it often times makes a horrible chanking sound. I would appreatiate anyone feedback on this matter.

Cool Re: Tranmisson Problems

hello,
I have a 1991 trooper with v6 and automatic, and I had the exact same problem with my transmission.
On the left side of the transmission you can find the "select switch". With an electronic cleaner spray from Auto Zone, or most any other auto store, (costs about 5-7 bucks ) spray the connector very well.
It seems to me that the cause of this problem is that either oil or dirt has gotten into the switch, after i cleaned mine, i had no problem with the transmission at all.
I hope this helps you!
