94 eldorado transmission problems can anyone help?
I have a 1994 Cadillac Eldorado, 106,000 miles and very well maintained. The "service engine soon" light came on and very shortly after the car began shifting roughly and jumping a lot when putting it in gear.
I took it in to get it looked at and the codes po076 transmission control silinoid, and po086 undefined gear ratio came up. Are the two codes related or are they separate problems? The place i took it to does not work on transmissions and told me nothing besides i needed to take it to a professional that works on transmissions. They refered me to a transmission specialist. Should i take it there or just stop by the Cadillac dealership and see if they can take care of it? |

It sounds like one of the shift control solenoids is bad, and that's expected with a car that old and with that many miles! The problem is the solenoid is buried pretty deep inside the transmission, so it most likely will have to be removed to have the solenoid replaced. I'd take the car to a reputable trans shop, but most likely they will recommend a rebuilt transmission. The Cadillac dealer will probably recommend the same.

Ok, thats whats I was thinking. I was pretty sure that they would have to take out the transmission one way or the other, probablly gonna be pretty costly. It was so strange when it happened, it gave no sign of anything getting ready to go, it was running fine, but then I stopped at a red light, realized my check engine light was on, and it started shifting rough from that point on.

I don't agree with caddy daddy. If you check oround and know what you are looking for the selinoids that are defective can be relaced for 100# dollars labor and the cost of the selinoids. I have owned a 94 ETC since it was new and am familiar with idiocicracies of this model.

First of all this thread is 6 months old, basically dead, second the side cover must be removed to gain access to these solenoids which including dropping the subframe down some and removing the axles is not a 100.00 labor job. Book flat rate time is about 4.2 hours here so you can do the math.
