'02 Denali fuel pump noise

Just noticed after a long trip, that the fuel pump was "whining." It whines regardless of whether it's in drive or park. I verified this by removing the fuse for the fuel pump and the noise went away. I'm sure this can't be good, but any advice would be helpful.

The fuel pump on my 2000 Yukon with 110,000 miles has been making loud noises on and off for the past year or so. It worried me so I bought a new one, but haven't put it in yet. Other friends that have similar trucks seem to get about 150,000 miles out of these pumps, however one could always fail prematurely. You have to drop the gas tank to replace it so it's not something you want to happen on the side of the road.

Mine in my 2001 has been whining for years. I don't notice any real performance issues. I could see it being aggravating.
