Re: Fuel Sending Unit -- Recall in 6-8wks
I'm on the verge of purchasing a 99 honda passport. I started researching on here today and I must say I am scared. I am wondering if Oregon is at high risk for this fuel additive problem that anyone knows of. I am a single mom (with limited mechanical ability) and I am concerned about making this purchase. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks- Summer |

Re: Fuel Sending Unit -- Recall in 6-8wks
It was pretty common all over the place. Its not a big deal though, the worst that can happen is the fuel gauge doesnt work. If thats the case, just fill up every 200-250 miles and you'll be fine. Can always get it replaced later on when you are able to. I get about 200 miles out of 1/2 tank.
You might get lucky and it will be working. The problem with the gas that caused the problem is over so as long as it wasnt damaged too much it should work for a quite a while.

Re: Fuel Sending Unit -- Recall in 6-8wks
I sure wish I had my own shop here in Louisiana and all of these Rodeos were close enough for me to help you guys with I could charge 1hr. of labor come out ahead and labor would be less than half of wat the dealer charges
by the way I can get the job done in under 15 minutes as long as I have a lift and a tranny jack |

Re: Fuel Sending Unit -- Recall in 6-8wks
Here in AZ, if you have a check engine light, you can't renew your car registration.
I got codes P0463 - fuel sending unit? I am going to try and find an oem source for this. I will run it by my regular mechanic and see if he can install, otherwise my dealer is thinking $600 for a new Fuel pump. No way! I got code P1133 - HO2S Insufficient switching Bank 1 sensor 1 - any thoughts on what I am looking at here? Service advisor started talking about replacing a catalytic converter. Help! |

The dealer told me to 'make sure the gas cap is on tight' when i initially got the message shortly after purchase at 52K. Wish I would have known then that perhaps the powertrain warranty would cover the repair. I am not sure dealers are really looking out for our best interests... Do you have any heads up on the O2 question Code P1133? What should I be on the lookout for as a solution. P.S. A fella that posts here does have a batch of the fuel sending units coming available in early June, so I will purchase one from him, so that should be a big relief. But when I spoke to a service advisor about the O2 sensor, he started talking about possibly replacing the catalytic converter... Hmmmm... |
