Question '94 Eldo Electrical Advice

Hello. I've got a 94 Eldorado and I'm having the strangest problem. Took this car to an auto mechanic and $600 later they still have not correctly diagnosed the issue. Neither blower motor or the compressor works all of the time. Sometimes, it will turn on and work most of the day, but if I turn the car off, it dies. MOst of the time, however, I am hot as a frying pan having to use 2-40 air conditioning. Further, the climate screen reads two dashes whenever it does this. I also recently noticed that whenever all of this all happens, the cruise control will not set, however, whenever its working, the cruise sets beautifully and I get ice cold air. What gives? Any advice? AK-47?

Sounds like the data line is corrupt. Or the body control module is intermittent. Or a connection at the BCM. Have the dealer check it out. All that you mention, have the data link interconnected and controlled by the BCM.

Check for trouble codes.

To enter diagnostic mode:

1. Turn ignition "ON."
2. Depress the "OFF" and "WARMER" buttons on the Climate Control Center (CCC) simultaneously and hold until the segment check appears on the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

The following link will provide information on codes:

This may diagnose the problem.

Re: '94 Eldo Electrical Advice

I had a problem similar but not exactly as you describe. It ended up being a relay. Thing was it didn't cut out all the time and was working during A/C diagnosis by my guys. Always the way.

Too bad you're not in my area as I take A/C service to guys I've been going to for something like 25-30 years.

In my personal opinion I'd stay way the hell away from a dealer unless there are no competent A/C shops in your vicinity. Ask a friend or two who they use.

I'm curious as to what the mechanic did for the $600. Bottom line I think it might be an A/C relay.
Don't let this be you!
