Neutral safety switch bypass surgery
If the starter seems to be lacking juice to start my '96 Tracker Auto, could the neutral safety switch on the tranny be bypassed to eliminate that as a possible trouble spot? What do you think???

Re: Neutral safety switch bypass surgery
You need to get a multi meter to measure voltage. Less than $5 at harbour freight.
Set meter to measure 12 volts. Check batt. Red on +, black on -. Reading should be about 12.5 to 13.3. If lower have batt tested and also a load test. Autozone type places do it free. Then clip the red to starter where big cable is, black to any bare, clean metal, ground. Could also use neg post on the batt. Have some one engage starting. Volts should be about 11.5 or so. if less current not GETTING to the starter. Going backwards next check solenoid or relay. Track the big red cable from starter to the next place. Check volts there. If you have a black juice can sized thing on starter then this is the solenoid. If volts good there then replace solenoid, and or whole starter. If mechanical skills are good you can get a rebuild kit for solenoid. |

Re: Neutral safety switch bypass surgery
OOp`s fur got. Bypassing neutral safety switch is not a good thing to do. Could be dangerous. If you gotta, temp do it, to test ONLY. Unplug the wire to switch and use a short piece as a jumper between the wires you unpluged.
