No, It will not hit much above 148. The highest I've read about was 158 and he said it was on a downgrade. All achieved in 5th gear, which is the high gear in this car. 6th might pull a few more miles out of it, but it's mostly an overdrive gear and don't expect more then single digit gains from it. The FD is a totally different car made with a totally different performance in mind. It has more hp and less weight. Most likely geared different also. I've never been in one but they are beautifull cars, even by todays standards... |

Speedy.....
The JDM RX-8 is limited, but there is no limiter on US models. Top gear on a dyno will get you well over 180mph.
The un-modified real world top speed is about 150mph, the car wants to go faster in 5th, and redlines the tach, but if you use sixth, there is just not enough grunt and you lose speed. If you go by the digital speedo, top speed would be 999mph, right? . . . doc |

I have a US spec 2004 RX8 that I drive in Europe. Last weekend I hit 130 MPH on the Autobahn and it wasn't even breathing hard, I'm sure I could have gotten well over 140/150.

Re: top speed?
RX8 top speed is 150ish.
On a dyno, sure you can get to 180 but the car is not going that fast, you just are turning rollers at a low resistance with no account for actual friction of road surface, drag coefficient ect ect. But really, who cares how fast they can go. There not top speed cars, its all about how fast you can corner.

Re: top speed?
i think a turbo rx8 would have better stability (with stock aero) than an rx7, by virtue of a more rigid structure and longer wheelbase. am i right?

Re: top speed?
When i teast drove the car befiore tuning and the addition of a few othere parts it did not feel stable at high speeds. It felt very twitchie.
The FD feels rock solid at high speed as the hole car acts like a wing creating down force. With some adjustments to thes suspention we should be able to sold the problems it was showing.
