You two have no idea what the hell you are talking about.

Skyline's have had circular ass lights since the mid 1960's. The Corvette changed around 1961. The Cobalt came out in 2005.

It is understandable that PinstripeBob would say this, for he is a newbie and sounds like a domestic car guy. But for you Silver_GTR34 to say this, well, you need to change your user name for saying a dumbass thing like that. You are disgracing the name R34 by using it and not even knowing that the Skyline has had this tail light design for over 35 years.

The Cobalt's tail lights look like the Skyline's, not the other way around.

Here--I will go out my way to prove both of you "non-knowing about Skyline" nerds wrong with some pictures of Skylines from the past 40 years. NOTE THE YEAR ABOVE THE PICTURES. THAT IS THE YEAR OF THE CAR.
WITH CIRCULAR TAIL LIGHTS!!!

1965

1974

1977

1978

1996

2001

I really don't either, I was just drinking a beer, and found this reply fun to make. See you dorks later.

First of all, you have to admit that that rear end looks like a C5's and C6's. Second, yes, I am a domestic car guy, and I am new to this forum, but alas, I am not a "nerd." Third, the Corvette had those before 1965(I didn't do any research on the Nissan, dumb thing, if I'm wrong, tell me), and the Cobalt has already gone through the concept phase and into production. The lights could have been changed so that they didn't look like the Cobalt's.

You are not getting it. The Skyline had four circular tail lights before the C5, C6 and way before the Cobalt. If anything, GM copied Nissan, so GM should change it's design.

The Cobalt rear end completely copied the Skyline's. When the Cobalt came out, alot of people said things like "Why does the Cobalt's rear look like the Skyline?, GM ripped off Nissan!"

Did you even look at the pictures I posted above with the years above them?????????

NISSAN had the lights first!!!!!!!

Re: Nissan unveils the next-generation GT-R prototype

Wait. In my last reply, I said the Corvette had them before 1965, and for you to correct me if Nissan had them before them. I did a quick search on eBay Motors to confirm this, and I saw a 1961 Corvette with those taillights.

I stated that I knew that already in my original post.

Re: Nissan unveils the next-generation GT-R prototype

Alright, missed that. Sorry. But alas, two of my posts ago, I said the back looked like a C5's and C6's. My point was not to direct attention to the lights, but rather the sculpture of the back. This new Skyline, and slightly the previous, have very similar lines in the whole back of the car, right where that big seam is from the rear quarters.

Re: Re: Nissan unveils the next-generation GT-R prototype

PinstripeBob, you seem like a pretty good guy after all.

Sorry I was gone for a while, I just got done watching that horror flick House of Wax with Paris the whore Hilton. It was pretty good.

I thought you were going to be one of those members that replies to an argument with answers like "screw you Automobile Maniac" or "Automobile Maniac, you are a complete fucking jerk" .

I'm not saying I was was testing you. That would be stupid & gay. I'm not one of those weirdos.

Anyhow, when you two said those beginning statements, I had to say something because I knew that one day somebody would say Nissan is copying Chevy.

What sucks is that when the Skyline finally gets to the good ol' U.S., everybody and their siamese twin is gonna say that Nissan is a copy cat.

Oh well, what do I care, I didn't create the goddamn car or even own one.

You know what the good thing is about this thread Bob?
I'm gonna put this

I really don't either, I was just drinking a beer, and found this reply fun to make. See you dorks later.

that I posted to an earlier reply as my new signature.

Bob, this has been way too much typing for me in two day's time, see you somewhere else in the AF world.

I, too, thought the same of you at first. It seems as though I'm wrong, too. But yeah, whatever. It seems like everyone copies everyone else.

Re: Nissan unveils the next-generation GT-R prototype

Looks o.k. but not from the sides. Not to crazy about the taillights...don't look as good as the R34 to me...I couldn't wait till this car finally came out but now that its close, I don't feel as enthused as before...even though I'm still excited. Also, most of its fans most likely won't even be able to afford it. When I'm finally able to afford a $70k or over car I most likely will get the cayman, or something else that probably won't be an Infiniti. It seems japanese car makers have a history of coming out with trend setting cars and then shooting themselves in the foot by pricing them so damn high... At least its good that they are making the GTR global...can't go wrong with that! Hopefully, when it comes out it will peak my interest a little more than just riding on the claim of its name.

Unhappy

Am I the only one who hates this car from pictures? Hopefully it'll change my mind when we finally get to see it in person, it looks rather weird, especially that rooftop and front fenders.

GT-R Going Upscale: Next-gen Skyline to be sold as Infiniti in U.S., sources say

KATHY JACKSON | Automotive News

Posted Date: 12/5/05

LOS ANGELES - The next-generation Skyline GT-R, a high-performance sports car, will be sold as an Infiniti in the United States, say two sources familiar with Nissan Motor Co. Ltd.'s plans.

The current generation is sold under the Nissan brand in Japan. Company executives have been debating whether to sell it in America as a Nissan or an Infiniti.

The most recent GT-R concept was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. The production model will be shown at the Tokyo show in 2007.

The sources say the vehicle will be either a 2008 or 2009 model with a sticker price of about $65,000. They say Nissan has targeted annual U.S. sales of about 1,500.

The automaker showed only the car's exterior at the Tokyo show and has not said much about the powerplant. But one source says the Skyline GT-R will have all-wheel drive and two turbochargers, and produce more than 400 hp.

"It will be wicked; faster than a bullet," he said.

Asked to comment on the vehicle, Frederique Le Greves, head of public relations for Nissan North America Inc., said, "No decision has been made on whether it will be a Nissan or Infiniti when it comes to the United States."

Some company executives fought to put a Nissan nameplate on the GT-R in the United States because it is known as a Nissan globally. The car appears in many popular racing video games in the United States, such as Sony PlayStation's Gran Turismo.

But a source says in-house studies show that the expected clientele does not want to shop for such a high-end vehicle at a Nissan dealership.

Infiniti dealer John Capps says the Infiniti dealer group has been lobbying for the GT-R. Capps, owner of Plaza Motor Co. in St. Louis, and former chair of the Infiniti dealer council, says "it would be a wonderful halo car."
