only smokes on start up when cold
just had the valve seals replaced and it still smokes when cold ?
oil usage has decreased from 100 miles to a quart to about 300miles to a quart or better but it seem to smoke more now on start up than before valve seals were done it may just be worse now because it is colder out any idea what would cause this? |

it is really strange it only does it when it is cold out side and the choke is on if it is warm then no smoke also no smoke after it has been started unless it get's cold then it does the same all over again.
It is almost like it is pulling oil from some vaccumm line ir the increased suction due to the fact the choke it on pulls oil from somewhere not even sure what to check or how to do it ] |

Re: only smokes on start up when cold
It is the piston rings. The reason it does it more when it is cold is the rings are cold and as the truck warms they expand enough to stop the oil blowby. Mine does it every winter.

Re: only smokes on start up when cold
I believe that the cold start smoke your seeing is from the rod grommets. They are made of rubber and wear out. After the engine warms up the grommets expand and tighten arround the rod. I definatly wouldn't do a rebuild because of this. Just have a few extra quarts of oil behind your seat. Check your oil often on your Mazda. If your oil presure drops, your lashers witch cushin the rocker arm will run dry. Then you'll hear serious knocking.
