Re: Nsx R vs Viper Srt 10
die hard car fans/drivers also say nsx....
actually, when i said this, i meant it as it reads. i mean, when a guys like gordon murray and walter rohl say the NSX is near perfect, who am i to argue? |

Well then the Viper must be damn well perfect considering a lightly breathed on ACR Viper GTS coupe smacked around a Vortech supercharged NSX for several years in Speed World Challenge.
That was, of course, before Archer Motorsports left to become Dodge's factory Trans-Am team, developing a 5.0L carbed V8 powered Viper for Trans-Am racing.

Re: Nsx R vs Viper Srt 10
...perfect in terms of car set-up, feel, handling etc etc.
not whether or not one car can beat another. i'm pretty sure this has been said before and not just by me but, the faster car does not neccesarily mean the better car. but then again. i just re-read the opening post in this thread. he's asking about the better track car.... |

Until you consider that the Viper has the better track record, is the faster car, and is considerably less expensive to own, tune, and maintain than the NSX.
The Viper wins this argument hands down as the superior track car.

Tommy Archer and his Viper Competition Coupe sat on pole this weekend in Speed World Challenge GT at Mosport. Where was the Realtime NSX? Sitting in a Honda warehouse awaiting museum display as competition rendered it obsolete.
Yeah, I'm sure the Mopar boys are quivering in their boots.

Re: Nsx R vs Viper Srt 10
i cant believe the viper is winning. The NSX is the superior car. It may be down 200hp and 5000cc... but it weighs 600lb LESS than the viper... its mid mounted engine has better balance and weight distribution. it will carry more speed through the corners. and i'm not saying the viper wouldnt win, even around a circuit, it probably would, but only from ass-whoopin straight line performance... give the NSX another 100hp and the contest is over.
watch the best motoring touge competitions..... it proves that power isnt everything (and they are not staged). |

Like I've said countless times before, Vipers have stoopid huge amounts of grip (with 275/40-17 tires up front and 335/35-17 tires in the back it's hard not to), massive braking (especially the later models with ABS), and are startlingly good in successive corners (I've seen the things go through the Esses at Mid-Ohio, nice and level with just a hint of oversteer). ACR models come with adjustable Koni shocks and even bigger brakes, and Vipers react incredibly well to basic tuning. (John Hennessy actually learned that plugging the NACA duct on the GTS hood was good for 5hp).
The NSX needed a Vortech supercharger to remain competitive with Audi S4's and BMW M3's during a season in which Tommy Archer and his all conquering ACR Viper GTS were shelved to help Dodge with its nascent (and ultimately futile) Trans-Am program. Nowadays, the NSX is a relic (and Realtime, the team that campaigned it, is busy sorting out Acura TSX bugs in Touring class competition hoping that the rules allowing SRT-4's into the class next year don't render them uncompetitive) while the new Viper Competition Coupe is busy mopping up what competition hasn't been buried by the Pratt & Miller Cadillac CTS-V's.

I will give PD Cunningham credit, Realtime did a bangup job with this car keeping it as competitive as they did in 1998, taking the GT championship.
But in the end, this was always the car to beat in GT. 1999 and 1997 champion Bobby Archer and his ACR Viper GTS.

Re: Nsx R vs Viper Srt 10
what really bugs me about these comparisons is that they are more often than not flawed and biased.
how i see things. amongst its peers, the nsx is right up there with the best of them. by peers, i mean 3.0 litre cars that have around 300 bhp. when you throw into it the fact that the car has remained virtually unchanged for 10+ years whilst reamining a benchmark adds to its greatness. that is my judge. even if you gnore the engine size and compare directly with cars with similar bhp, it takes a car with at least 50 horses more to compare. that is why the nsx is great in my eyes. but the viper. well, among its group of 500ish bhp cars, can you really say it is one of the best in it's group the way the nsx is? but then again. i've digressed. the thread asks which is the better track car. the obvious answer is that the car with more horsepower will be 'better'. i.e the same way that a ford focus can outdo a sl500 in a slalom but lose on a track. |
