honda buffs

should a 93 si hatchback with a 1996 gsr with h/i/e and 41000 miles beat a 1998 prelude with h/i/e, cause my boy raced a prelude tonight and it fuckin walked on him, both from a roll on and from a dead stop he was really depressed cause today was the first day he got it back and the dood who was droping the motor in said it should run between 13.70's to 14.10's and it sure didnt feel that quick but ohh well that is what forced induction is for

If your friend's car is manual, maybe he needs to learn how to shift? (Not trying to be mean, but shifting makes a huge difference in acceleration) Did the Prelude have any mods done to it?

the prelude had headers intake and exhaust well my friend didnt drive it the one time and the car still lost and the kid who drove it can drive, better then most, is there any way the motor can just be a dumper
heh it only had 40k miles on it too but see he had to take the butterflys out, so could that effect it that greatly

I think it should have been a pretty close race, the Prelude does have more horsepower but the Civic is lighter.

i dont want to be mean but i think you friend might have to work on the driving skills a bit. i dont think its the engine because it would have acted up before this.

The GSR motor has 170 HP and the Prelude motor has 195 HP and it has more torque to get off the line than the GSR motor too. I think if the Prelude didn't have any mods it would have been a pretty close race.

Hmmm...never heard of a b18c3??? What is it?? As for the motor, your friend could have gotten a crappy motor.

i think the race ended like it should have...

Most of the time, it takes some mods to beat a lude, and honestly, that GSR engine Si needs some more work done to it...

either that, or he just cant shift properly...

Check this out...

Stock-for-stock, the integra engine should've beat the prelude sitting in it's original engine bay, much less in a hatchback that weighs in at about 400lbs less than a GSR. Granted, the H22 has 25 more HP and about 30 foot-pounds more of torque, but the Prelude weighs in at about 3,200lbs...even more if it's the SH...and the Si hatch weighs in at 2300lbs (GSR is at 2700-ITR at 2500).

25HP+30FT-LBS of TQ is not enough to make up for 900LBS.

Bottomline, get that engine checked, and your friend's skill re-evaluated.

Oh, BTW...the previous generation Preludes are faster, since they're much lighter than the latest versions, with basically the same engines...I've seen a stock (with I/E only) '95 run a 14.9...

A stock Integra will not beat a stock Prelude unless the Integra is a Type R.

1/4 Mile times taken from Car and Driver

2000 Acura Integra - 15.7
2000 Honda Prelude - 15.4

You're biased, I think...

but if you wanna get specific, Road&Track lists both at 15.8, and Car&Driver lists the Sportronic Prelude at 16.0. I've seen GSR times as low as 15.5, and Prelude times as High as 15.8. With equal drivers, I still think a GSR will win.
