Identifying the date of my engine
The only numbers i've been able to find are 10066036 (located on driver side rear ledge. I'm pretty sure that indicates i have an LM1 Goodwrench crate motor. There are two sets of codes on the front passenger side right under the alternator "1M1009" and "7VP"...not sure what these mean. And then under the valve cover i found "83417869". Not sure what that means either. From the research i've done, i have not been able to find a code that looks like a date code. Can anybody help?

Re: Identifying the date of my engine
Quote:
Engine ID Code Example: V0107CLJ - (V = Plant, 01 = January, 07 = 7th Day, CLJ = Engine Suffix Code) Another example: T0830CTY - (T = Tonawanda, 08 = August, 30 = 30th day, CTY = 1970 396 Camaro, 375 hp, 11.0:1, TH400) with the engine suffix code [like CTY] this can be decoded to find year manufactured ... |

Re: Identifying the date of my engine
Is your block left or right dipstick? Pre-1980 blocks are on the left (driver) side, =>1980 blocks are on the right side.
On the pre '80 blocks, pull the timing cover off and the block casting # is located there. The stamped numbers in the pad on the right side to the top of the water pump are the numbers that jcAT above noted, and also the cars' VIN (the last 8 digits only). The '80-up blocks are also like that, but have the last 3 digits of the block casting cast into each side of the block, above the pan rail (example, 207). Casting numbers can generally be found also on the transmission flange, and dating information on the right side of the block. You might see a 'clock' shaped marking with a 'hand' pointing to a dot (indicating hour of pouring), another 'arrow' pointing at a D or N (day or night shift), and a number such as G 26 7 where the first digit is a letter that indicates month (A = January, G = July etc), 26 indicates day of month and 7 is last digit of year made (in my case here, '87 for July 26th 1987). You can get casting information from www.mortec.com ...

The dipstick is on the passenger side, but there IS a hole on the driver side to put it also, it just has a plug in it. I believe i found some kind of date stamp, its a circle made of dots with a line in it. Can't remember what it looks like exactly but i'll have to check again.
