Question 2002 Safari - new fuel pump issue

My pumpp went bad a couple months ago and I bought an AC/Delco repacement pump--the kind you place in the old housing-- What is happening is the Van will never start on the first try--always the second try. Like it takes the pump two cycles to get pressure to the engine. Is there a valve that could be allowing the fuel to dain back and taking "two cycles" for the pump to get fuel back up to the engine... No problem after it starts and if restarted after a short amt of time it does OK---Only after it sits awhile ---Then I have to crank twice---About ready to just bite the bullet on a new assembly---any ideas?

Re: 2002 Safari - new fuel pump issue

My original pump went bad that way, a couple of tries to prime it.
Have you checked your fuel pressure? A Chev Service rep said "said 60 psi minimum" I had 59psi.
A new pump fixed mine.
There is also a pressure regulator. Sometimes they can let the pressure down.
Do you have a full 12 volts to the pump, under load? I found a bad ground wire at the pump to the body on mine, as well, the connector at the pump is know to corrode from the high current the pump requires.

And a new pump will probably fix mine---I mean priming it is a pain having to turn the key two or three times---I have lived with it for a while so I bought one of those cheap spit chinese modules for $80 (with a lifetime warr) Last time I did it worked great for approx 14 months... Reckon I'll go that route for now...
