Full Synthetic Oil for 9-5?
I am using full synthetic oil in my 1999 Saab 9-5. It has 83,000 miles on it and is running fine. My question is, if using full synthetic, how many miles is reasonable before changing oil? 5,000? More? The stuff is good but expensive so I assume you can go without changing it for longer periods.

Re: Full Synthetic Oil for 9-5?
i would recommend going between 5k and 10k miles. you may have to experiment to get the right mileage. check it at 5k and every thousand miles after that. once it starts turning black, change it and then next time go 500-1000 miles earlier. that is what i do with all my cars. every car is different. my toyota would use regular oil up at 2700 mi. avg. and my 91' 900 uses semi-synthetic and it is used up around 5k.
2003 and up 9-3 sport sedans require full-synth. and saab recommends changing the oil every 15000 miles!!! i would go about 10k max on that car, myself. |

Re: Full Synthetic Oil for 9-5?
Change more often than they say. I change every 3500 miles. I bought
my 9-5 and had to replace engine because previous owner sludged it up from not changing oil often. He leased it and changed it every 10,000 what mess. False economy. |
