SRS light stays on '02 RSX S

I went to the dealer because my SRS light was on. Now the dealer says the computer indicates the passenger airbag was deployed and the entire system must be replaced for $3,200. I was in a fender bender 13 months ago, but the light was not on then. Has anyone else experienced or heard of this? I have a '02 type S. Any information would be appreciated.

Never heard of this before. So the bag did not deploy during the bender, I'm assuming? If so, I wouldn't pay a damn thing. That's ridiculous...3200?!

Bulllllshit. My pass. side airbag and I can't remember exactly but it only cost af few hundred canadian dollars. Take it to another Ac dealer or a body shop or collision repair center and see what they say.

BTW, did you install new seats or a steering wheel? That'd cause the SRS light to come on unless you overrided it.

Re: SRS light stays on '02 RSX S

my srs light came on in my si out of nowhere a while back and it was just because of a faulty sensor and was fixed under warranty. Did the airbag deploy during the fender bender? Because if not then if it was supposed to then youd have a lawsuit on your hands. If it did not deploy you COULD sue but you could also probably just get it replaced for free.

Were the seat belt pre-tensioners or retractors replaced as a result of the accident? If they were, then the SRS unit needs to be replaced. Not all body shops are aware of this. If that is the case, you could claim it on the insurance claim for the accident. We just had an MDX come through the shop with an SRS light on. The customer lives out of town and had a body shop closer to him fix the body damage and replace the retractors. Then he called me and said he needed the SRS light turned off. He came in and we found a bunch of false codes, one of them indicating the passenger side air bag was deployed. This was not the case. Had the body shop known the SRS unit had to be replaced, it wouldn't be a problem now. Anyway, the insurance company is paying for it and all is ok.

They maintain a database of factory recalls.

I found these recalls,
02-021 SEP 02 Restraint System - 'SIDE AIRBAG OFF' Indicator ON
02-020 AUG 02 Air Bag System - Occupant Position Sensor Initialization
02-015 JUL 02 Air Bag System - SRS Lamp ON/DTC's Set

My passenger light has came on and shut off about 3 times in the past two and a half weeks. Should i worry about it? It hasn't came on lately. Also, what are the little things that look like micro l.e.d. lights on the interior trim by the side view mirrors? Is that for the factory alarm system?

Re: SRS light stays on '02 RSX S

The passenger airbag light means that someone or something was blocking the pass. side airbag (like someone sticking their hand through to get to the back seat or an object blocking it). It is saying that because there is an obstruction the airbag will not deploy on that side (so that it doesn't blow off the persons arm if they're sticking their arm through there). It turns back on once the abstruction is cleared.

I'm not sure I understand the last part of your post though....

Anyway...when you stop and think about it, is it really that big of a tragedy if the passenger airbag doesn't deploy when it's your EX in the seat beside you...

HA HA HA......We get along fine....actually better now that we are sep/divorced. Yeah, she had her feet up on my dash. I just got the car and she props them up like it's an ol' beater car. I told her all right! That's one thing I hate about some people.......the fact that they can't respect someone's property (i.e. MY CAR). The best thing I realized about living in Las Vegas is that the SEMA show is only a few minutes from my place! Lots of cool toys and gadgets for tuner cars and lots of concepts too.
