1995 BMW-325I Tranny Problem

OK, Here's the issue... maybe someone has some advise.

I have a 1995 325i with 143K. Engine runs great. Looks great. But the automatic Transmission is having some problems.

First of all, if I drive in 3rd, you'd never know there was any problem.

But, if I drive in "D" I get really hard shifts.... Almost feels like I'm being rear-ended or something. It's really bad.

Anyway, some other symptoms include:
(intermittent)
* Failure to shift (it will go all the way to redline)
* Failure to start out in 1st at stop lights
* Shifts from 1st to 3rd bypassing 2nd.

These things happen sometimes, then other times it runs perfectly. But the hard shifting is almost always there.

I had the fluid checked and changed yesterday thinking that might help, but the problem still exists.

Like I said though, if I drive it in 3rd, It runs perfectly.

Any suggestions? The "trans guy" said I needed a new one, but in reading posts from this forum, that may not necessarily be the case.

Thanks for your wisdom.
Rob

almost everthing to do with shifting is electronic, your best bet is to take it to a good BMW dealer.
It may not have anything to do with the trans itself.
