engine swap
Hey guys, i have a 1991 S10 4cyl 2.5 Anyways there just isn't a whole lot of power in it so i have been thinking about getting a new engine. Really i just want to know if it is any easier or cheaper to just go to the chevy V6 rather than putting in a V8. Any answers are much appreciated thanks!

you could probably go to a junkyard and pickup a 4.3 v6 out of another s10 and throw that in there. im thinking that would be the cheapest route

Re: engine swap
Actually puting a small block v-8 into you s-10 is relatively cheap and the power is outrageous. Putting it in isn't hard..if you want i can tell you the parts you need.

Re: engine swap
Tranny will not bolt up and you will have to move the motormounts for any engine swap, the 4.3 is the best engine you could go with because it has lots of power, and it would be a little better on gas than a v8.

You will spend just as much putting in the 4.3 than you would putting in a smallblock. You still have to change exhaust, radiator, trans, motor mounts. You can do a small block with just that. With a 4.3 you have to swao the fuel pump and the wiring harness for the NEW computer. Small block with a four barrel. You can build a nice strong motor for $2500, get the radiator for $150 (same price as a stock 4.3 radiator) headers for $150, new th350 trans for $700 out of summitt, motor mounts for $150 and get your local trans shop to cut the driveshaft to length. Then you are the envy of all your friends because you can eat their butts for lunch on the track.
Go with the v-6 and you will be sorry... The power will NEVER be there, and you will have put all the time and money into building something you can go buy from any used car dealer. |
