k&n intake
ive got a 2001 nissan xterra. I installed the k&n FIPK and an airaid TBS.
the power increase and torque is great... i noticed a good difference. the only thing i noticed is that at about 1/4 throttle, and right when i shift i get this annoying whistle sound. Its really loud and high pitched like a dog whistle. I talked the K&n and they said some cars of different makes and models whistle. Its driving me crazy. was wondering if anyone else has this set up and is experiencing the same annoying loud whistle, thanks |

Re: k&n intake
I have the K&N FIPK, but I do not get any whistling. Only sound I have is gas being sucked out of the tank...but, I knew my MPG would decrease when I installed the FIPK.

Re: k&n intake
i just looked at the AirAid install instructions, it says "The sound of power... the "whistle" lets you know it's working" I think that explains your whistle sound...

thanks for the help.... i heard the TBS whistles alittle, but not to the extint of this... its like a dog whistle, i think its comming from the cone at the end of the fipk. k&n says some cars do it, im thinking of maybe trying a different set up. It only does it at about a 1/4 throttle, but going down the highway your at 1/4 throttle so it does it all the time. Its not load, its just at that frequency like a dog whistle and starts to give you a headache. maybe i should take the cone off and see if it still does it, good old trial and error, thanks again

one more question, you said your MPG went down when you put yours on??? i understand that with more air, the computer adds more fuel...but at the same time isint the engine more effecient...atleast enough to make it a wash out

i spoke with airaid...and yes it is the TBS that makes the noise. they said that it is so load because there is because im not using the stock air box with the resonators there is no way for the noise to get dampened. I had to take the TBS off. It was just too loud

I put on the same set up too,K&N plus TBS and a 2 3/4 inch. Magnaflow.
A bigger amp on the stereo takes care of the noise.
