pontiac 95 quad4 driving temperature

Does anyone know what the driving temperature of the quad 4 should be. I bought this car with 114,000 on it. At that time it was driving at 220. I had the heating core replaced and then the thermostat and the thermostat housing. Now it is driving at approx 235-250. At what temperature is the fan supposed to kick in?

The low speed fan @ 210-213, high speed @ around 223.

Did you do a cooling system flush, when you replaced the parts ?

Might try that and check your fan relay(s) and the temp sensor.
Though, it could be the head gasket.

Thanks for the info about the fans. Are there actually two fans or is it one fan at different speeds? I did not replace the parts myself. The people who did said they flushed out system when they replaced the heating core. The heater blower is also acting strange since they replaced the thermostat and housing, it works only on (setting one) at times and others on all four settings, in the same trip. I read on another thread that the system needs to be bled with the heating blower on. Any further advice would be most appreciated. This is a five speed manual transmission.

Thier's only one fan.

Air trapped in the system will sure cause problems.

Also make sure the right amount of coolant in in your system, 50/50 is usually enough unless you live in Northern Canada. Something like this should be used to test your coolant.

50/50 is good at temps between -34 f/-37 c up too +265 f/+129 c.

Looking at your profile, I seen you live in detroit , might consider running a 70/30(70% coolant) mix . That covers you -84 F/-64c up to +276f/+136c.

With the blower only working on #1 setting, that is usualy the blower resistor located in the blower housing. A real fun job.
