Re: 05 tC vs. 04? Grand Am GT
The advantage of the Grand Am GT is that it still hauls nicely with the weight of passengers thanks to all that torque. However, like the Scion, it was not intended to be a high performance race car. Like Mr. Luos said, they make excellent daily drivers with a nice ride, great handling, good fuel economy (with regular octane) on par with many 4 cylinder cars out there, lots of options, a great stock stereo system, smooth transmission, easy to drive in all driving conditions...and they will take care of most boy racers in their 4 banger compacts who want to try to take them on in the lame duck lane from a red light. Even when the large trunk is loaded up with luggage for the family of 4 that are riding in it on their long weekend trip (though in that case, maybe not a Scion tC).
Then again, the car looks so good inside and out, it doesn't need to be fast...it only needs to be fast enough.

Re: 05 tC vs. 04? Grand Am GT
Good kill. I raced one when I use to have my uber fast GS-R Integra (It was the GT model). Beat him by a couple cars. It was pretty fun though.

I love my Grand Am GT. But, like I said earlier....not for speed. That is what the other car is for. Does fine in traffic and getting on the highway though.

Re: 05 tC vs. 04? Grand Am GT
210 lb. ft. of torque is about all they're good for stock, then you need to build the tranny up. Keep everything stock, the transmission will last forever (or until you start doing neutral drops).
In retrospect, what's funny about the original post here is that the Scion driver actually thinks his 4 banger economy car is some fast street rod. My guess is this is due to the fact that up until he got his Scion, he hasn't driven anything faster than a 10 speed bike. With GTO's, Mustang GT's, SRT-4's, and now V8 powered Impala SS's and Monte Carlo SS's on the street and quite affordable to the average joe, I think most of us would have too much self-respect to brag about illegal street racing in a 4 banger economy grocery-getter.
