Painting clear parts?

Well i started a new kit. Montero by Tamiya. Very nice build up so far. Well the question is that the hood is clear and i wanted to know is there any thing i can do to paint it. I might just leave it clear to show off the motor detail i do later. And help is thanked.

Re: Painting clear parts?

Hey, I'm building the Tamiya 300ZX im building right now. I was thinking of leaving the hood clear to show off the engine. If you wan to paint it, dont paint it straight with the spraypaint or airbrush. PRIMER it, I made that mistake once on the Revell ITG by painting the light silver and it came out ugly. I striped it and then primer it. It came out great. So remember to primer clear parts first. If you want it clear, leave it clear and put a couple of layers of clear! Hope this helps!

Re: Painting clear parts?

another cool thing is to paint it with clear paint (like red for tail lights) without primer of course, you will have nice see through hood in body colour

Re: Painting clear parts?

Prime it like you would do when painting the body then paint the top coat over it when dry.
