check engine light comes on
with out a diagnostic tool. how can i read the codes on a 89 delta 88 v6 i could us the help

You can try the high tech code reader I developed. Take a piece of house wire about 6 inches long (single strand wire only-do not use multi strand or braided wire!), strip off 3/4 inch of insulation from each end. Bend it in half, and stick it into the apprpriate holes of your diagnostic access port. The check engine light will begin to flash, giving you the trouble codes. Get yourself a Chiltons manual to find out which holes to jumper. Chiltons manual will also give you the info as to what codes mean what.
