Re: Eighties Contest Entry: Barry Sheene's 1980 YZR500
Great work on that chain and those brake discs Rob!
I took a look at the fork set up in the brake disc picture, which paint is used for the calipers? They look truely stunning! Keep it up! /Joel

I used Tamiya enamel paint X-10, Gun Metal. The Tamiya enamels spray really nice and I use them for most metalic finishes. The exception is when a part needs to be handled frequently then I use Alclad.

Liquid nails is a builders adhesive. I actually tried this method with the Tamiya Putty and it worked even better! Quote:

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: Barry Sheene's 1980 YZR500
Ok, some more updates
I got on a roll and forgot to take progress pictures of the pedals and linkages, but I cut all the components apart and remade them. Here's the rear brake assembly almost completed other than the brake line and fittings I also made the tank base using plastic card and the weld technique described earlier. All thats left is the fuel pump. More updates soon!

I just look at the pictures and try to think of the right words to say. I can never really find the words to describe how amazing your work is.
It looks fantastic.......

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: Barry Sheene's 1980 YZR500
More updates:
Time to fit the main shock to the frame. Before I could complete that task I had to tidy up all the wiring and plum the fuel lines into two for attachment to the fuel pump. Once complete the shock slipped into place I also made the rear mud flap out of masking tape and coloured it with a Matt Black Tamiya marking pen. Once in place I drilled through into the rear swing arm and secured it with Sakatsu bolts. Some more news for the motorcycle fans out there, it looks like Tamiya are releasing a version of this bike! Here's the link to HLJ Hobby Link Japan pre-order More updates soon and thanks again for the comments!

Re: Eighties Contest Entry: Barry Sheene's 1980 YZR500
Great update Rob. I really think you've done a fantastic job on the engine. Color choice and detailing is perfect. The shock went into place like a dream, that lathe work lifts it!
Can I ask what kind of clear tube you are using? Looks perfect for the 1/12 bike kits. And the hose clamps, did you answer where they come from? When I'm in "ask mode", how have you treated the foot pegs, scratch or some PE parts? Last but not least, keep it up! I'll be back with more coments /Joel
