3 angle valve job

Can someone break it down to me exactly what this does and what the benifits are? I couldn't understand what the machineist meant that I talked to.

this is just a basic explanation.

pretend that the angle between the valves, and the head is exactly 90°.

the air flow around that corner from the valves into and out of the head is not very smooth. a 3 angle valve job would round out that angle, lets assume the 3 cuts would be 15°, 45°, and 60°.

with the more rounded angles, the air would flow better allowing more to enter, and therefore more HP.

is this something you can do yourself? or even a polish? i'd rather buy 100 dollars in tools and do it myself than pay 1000 for someone else to do it.

the polish you might be able to do by yourself, but it wont come out nearly as well im sure, the valve job is done by machines to exacting tolerances so i doubt that any weekend mechanic would be able to do it.

Re: 3 angle valve job

I'd rather have a mechanic do it who knows how to use the proper tools. I'm guessing it would probably cost $100-$200 minus parts because most shops charge $55-$70 per hour for general labor.
