A/C help and questions
My A/C pretty much quit working last summer. I had decided to just
forget about it until last week It suddenly worked again for like ten minutes. It sounds to me like the compressor is always on whether the A/C switch is on or not. Last week the noise that I had previously thought was my engine fan running was nicely absent. I switched the A/c on and the noise came on and when I switched the A/c off the noise stopped. During this same period the A/c inside the car was working. Now the noise is constantly there but no cold air inside. Now that you know the background, three questions that I really want answered. 1. What is going on? 2. I have thought about just pulling the compressor and forgeting about the A/c, what is involved in that and is it hard? 3. Well I guess it was only two questions. Thanks in advance for your help. 97 2door 4x4. The noise I am referring to is, I think, the normal sound the compressor makes. |

Re: A/C help and questions
Is the compressor on it's own auxiliary belt? if so, just take that belt off. If not, you'll probably have to get a shorter belt, or an idler pully to go in place of the compressor. Chances are, the clutch in the compressor has gone, and you'd be looking at a new compressor, plus a draining and refilling of the refridgerant. Not cheap work, usually.

mine did the same thing. check behind the glove box a module called the a/c amplifier it is attached to the blower housing. check the connector mine was bad. also the wire for the coolant sensor had come loose. the ecm would not let the a//c come on because it thought the engine was to hot. this coolant sensor is not the same as the temp guage sensor. it is on the left side looking into the engine compartment. hope this helps steve trackersrus i have parts

Re: A/C help and questions
Hi everyone I'm new on here. I'm having a loud rough idle or exhaust sounding noise happening only when my A/C is on. Only notice it when I'm slowing down and stopped in idle that's when the loud rattle like noise starts up. Stops when I turn A/C off. Cools great and blower/fan seems to work fine. Any idea's what this might be? Thanks for any help in advance!
