Thumbs up how to read codes without a code reader

all you need is a paper clip to read the check engine codes. i have done this many time over the years with great sucess. heres a cheat sheet and where to make the connection with the paper clip. yes just a paper clip is all thats needed.

Thanks for posting, but none of that is helpful on the Alero forum. On that link that you posted, it says that all OBDII vehicles require a scanner and that technique only works on pre-96 models. All Alero's are 1999 or newer.
