manual transmission plug problem

please give any advice u can will be greatly appreciated

ok 1995 geo metro 4cyl manual tranny
bought the car about 3months ago runs great changed my oil and noticed that the fill plug on the tranny (manual) is rounded out should be able to put a 3/8 ratchet in there to take it loose but it is rounded out.....well figure i try some vise grips but could never get a good grip on them because its so flush with tranny....next thing i tried is a easy-out but i didnt have enuff room to tap the easy out in the plug....need to figure out how to get this out because it has a leak and concerned it is low because it just started making a whining noise in 1st gear before i shift to 2nd and sometimes in 4th

any advice would be great

if you can give it a couple good wacks with a hammer and then try a 6 point socket it should come out

Just where EXACTLY is the plug for filling the manual transmission?

I have a '93 Metro - 3 cylinder 1.0 L engine and a 5 speed.

The Chilton Manual says where it is, but I can't see it on the transmission!

Is it hard to get to and open - bought the vehicle used and
I want to make sure the fluid level is OK.

I should probably drain and refill it since it is at 150,000 miles
and who knows if it was EVER changed!?

well on my car which is a 4cyl not a 3 the fill plug if you are facing the transmission from driver side looking at it is in the top right corner gotta look good for it a flashlight be handy if u down there for the 1st time looking for it

If you figure out a way to remove your plug (and find a replacement besides Chevy) let me know. My filler plug is the same way. This sucks.

well wish i had better news but i never could get it out, and went to several transmissions places to get it worked on and most either turned me away or wanted to charge me about 300 dollars labor...so im just gonna get me another car soon.....i have tried several things like
easy out,vise grips,channel locks,even bought a special kit from mac tools for the problem and that didnt work either if i ever find the person that did that im gonna kill em but if u figure anything out lemme know gonna keep the car around i know i wont get much resale on it

if its the fill plug your trying to remove there is a alternative. remove bottom drain plug and remove all the fluid. put the plug back in. then remove speedometer gear and housing from top of tranny. its held in with like 1 10mm bolt. then look in book for correct amount of fluid and pour it in through speedometer hole. replace gear and your all done

Hey it's you again Crvett69! You are a life saver! That tip helps out so much. I'll be doing it that way. BTW, what happens if there is too much oil in the tranny? I know it holds like 2.5 quarts, I was just wondering. Thanks again Crvett69, you are an asset to this forum. Good day.

you get to much oil in it and you might blow it out a seal. try to keep it about where its supposed to be
