Re: NOT the end of my '93 metro...Life after death! RINGS
This morning I am going out and drive the car.
The old Distributor is going back into the engine and all of the components that Crvett69 sent to me. I will put my original spark coil back in also. I'll have to retime it then. I intend to summarize everything I have learned here in these TWO threads. Remember, this thread is a second part of a previous thread. I will try to remember all that I can. However, it would be very nice if all of you who have been reading this were to post what you think is important to remember and put in the summary... In that way, any poor soul who has a Geo Metro acting up may be able to find something useful to help them fix the damned thing! So, please post those things you remember that caused me to make headway in this endeavor. For Example - always replace the MAP with the exact part number your engine has in it. I will then add them to the final summary - on a new Thread "The Flight of the PHOENIX" DoctorBill

Re: NOT the end of my '93 metro...Life after death! RINGS
Here is my 2¢ worth....
My Metro gets about 45 mpg average over a year's weather conditions. I personally drive about 18,000 miles in a year (75 miles/day) x 5 days a week etc. Were I driving a 25 mpg car, that would be 720 gallons/year. But my '93 Geo Metro uses 400 gallons/year. That is 320 gallons LESS than your average car. @$3 / gallon, I save $960 / year....! More if/when gasoline goes up.... If you have one of these, it may not matter to you.... Yes - try to find a good running Geo Metro for sale! Most folks I run into wouldn't sell theirs ( and I ask!).... Maybe some dip-brained Car Executive will decide to try selling them again... although I doubt it - he wouldn't make money fast enough to suit the Corporation. If an entrepreneur started another GEO METRO type car manufacturing organization, the big Corps would kill him or see to it he (she) failed. Now WHO would do such a thing......OIL, Big automotive Corporations, Parts manufacturers, Environmentalists (it would take away their cause!)... The US Government would also try to kill him - not enough silly "scientific" gadgets on it. BUT - Maybe some senator could use the "Pork" for her state....Pelosi...Feinstein? I sometimes wonder if I shouldn't buy one each of the big parts just to have if my Phoenix craps out....parts may become harder to find ! Then - who knows, my Phoenix may become one of those Antique cars worth a fortune just because it is older than dirt. they still make the 94 metro down in south america. someone must have bought the molds and rights and is producing them down there. kind of like what they did with the bug in mexico

Re: NOT the end of my '93 metro...Life after death! RINGS
I think my 5 speed transmission could use a change of bearings....
That scares the Hell out of me....like taking apart a watch and trying to reassemble it! Buying a used transmission requires matching it to my engine AND a used one could be no better than what I have in there now! If I do it, at least I'll know that it is fixed - correctly I hope! I just have to work up the nerve to do it.... DoctorBill

Not that I've heard, but they made them until 2004. You're not bringing anything in that can't be bought here. Customs won't have it based upon EPA and NHTSA rules.
