1997 Mazda Protge Wheel and Tire Question

I'm looking at gettings some new rims and tires for my 97 Protege. I was going to go with 205/45/16, but many people have told me that I should put 215/45/16. Will the 215's work, or will they scrape on the wheel well when I'm going over a bump?????
