Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
F1 for me; the P1 is a beauty, as is the X1, but neither will win Le Mans

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
No your'e certainly not the only one, i commented that i was unsure about P1 where the F1 as you say grabbed my attention instantly, more by its design remit and impressive packaging over looks to be honest though I do like the clean lines of the F1, (yes I know that is at odds with my actual preference for the GTR with its aerodynamic additions and protrusions, but thats more my preference for racing variants of any car to be honest.) No contest I would spend my money on an F1 over P1 in an instant, 3 seats in roadcar for starters, with room for luggage. It may gain my interest and respect with time I will wait and see.

F1. NO, you aren't the only one, I have maybe a bit different reasons not to say anything much yet. Like you mentioded ultra light weight is one thing. If there will be KERS or something onboard this P1, it will bring more weight. And today's cars weight atleast 1000kg even you do anything becouse of the today's rules when making cars, safety and so on. Second; If they use 12c's engine layout, the interest of this car to me drops alot. This kind of supercar need to have 12 sylinders. It's not fun anymore if someone can tell you in gas station "My VW has more sylinders than your supercar has..." And that's not fun even how quick the P1 would be.... And seems there will be turbos also, no thanks. Third; it will never gets that kind of repuration that F1 has got. Never. F1 was true drivers car, simple, bloody quick, fantastic engine, very special gearbox desing and very compact with out any unnessary things. And that endurance racing history is one thing which never any manufacturer will not sucseed, not even P1. This new P1 just don't give me any vibrations. There in Octane's cover F1 seems still more elegant than P1 longside it. Sorry McLaren, but glad you did F1, one of the greatest cars ever and that how it will be to me, no mather how powerfull and quick P1 will be.

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
A little conformation from the suspicions.
Today I spoke with a man who's very interested to buy (and race) the P1 and had been to the MTC this week. The new P1 has basicly the same V8 engine as the MP4-12C, together with the KERS system it produce 960hp. They didn't tell him the precise weight, but it would be around the same level of the MP4-12C (also the interior looks familiar). Which is very impressive if you know there's a heavy KERS system integrated. The reason to choose for the V8 was clear from the beginning; the lack of weight compared to a V12, for example. And if you reminds yourself the fact that Ferrari's new F70 will have a V12 and KERS, they expect the P1 will be a lot lighter. A nice bet; how many seconds will the new P1 be off the all time track record at the Nordschleife? They expect to set a new lap record (of course, as a road legal car) but which would be hard to beat with a race car too (current GT3's). Production car will be the same as Paris, and in reality it looks better than the pics he said, but it's too perfect and very 'clinical'. But the best news of all; a GT version is expected in 2014. |

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
Thanks Arjan for these interested details.
Just one question: what GT category would accept such car? |

At this moment the Fia and ACO doesn't have a 'standard' category for it, the only possibility is the 'Hybride programme'. The Fia doesn't have detailed plans for 2013 and 2014 for the Hybride category yet. The main requirement the Fia makes to teams who wants to race Hybride cars is that the level of performance must be close to the GT3's and not faster overall. I think, in the near future they have to do something to set more clear regulations. Because McLaren's P1, Ferrari's F70 and Porsche's 918 are all hybrids. Despite Porsche is busy to develope a 918 without KERS too (probably called 916), there will be race team(s) interested to race the KERS cars. |

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
Apologies for the massive size, but that's what P1 would look like in Gold. Credits to Funkyskunk2 on Teamspeed for the coloring efforts. More colors here: http://teamspeed.com/forums/mclaren/...ml#post1388747

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
P1 vs. 918 Spyder, by Funkyskunk2 again. P1 for me definitely. Would make a pretty good Bond car in that color too. Enough with the Astons...

Re: Mclaren F1 Reborn
What a P1 GTR would look like. Big thanks to Jonsibal for the rendering work, and blissat9k on Teamspeed for the heads-up. Personally, and just my , the '96 GTR wing here doesn't really match the rest of the P1's aesthetics, and probably wouldn't match well with the rest of the aero flow either. A larger, bare carbon fiber version of the P1's curved double wing would probably be a better fit, though it would need to be fixed rather than active to comply with most racing organizations' rules for GT cars.
