Serpentine Belt Change B.S.

Hi, I just bought a 2006 Torrent. It had a bit of a squeek in the engine compartment since I bought it so I figured it was the serpentine belt. I bought the replacement one then proceeded to remove the old one like I have done in many vehicles previously. First of all, you have to have a reallllllly skinny ratchet to be able to access the hole for the tensioner pulley, then it would seem to me that you have to remove the engine mount to actually get the old belt out and new belt in. I tried numerous ways to get it out (aside from cutting it) and removing the mount seems to be the only option I could come up with. Naturally I decided to put the old one back on.
Good old GM and their stupid set-up to make servicing their vehicles near impossible. If anyone knows another way other than to remove the engine mount, please let me know. Thanks.

Re: Serpentine Belt Change B.S.

The belts on these cars are rated for 140,000kms. The only way I can see to get it off is to remove the mount.
