V6 Timing Belt Life Expectancy

Looking at possibly purchasing a 2000 V6 4X4 Frontier. When is the timing belt due to be changed on that truck? Is it 100 000 km (60 000 miles)? If it doesn't get changed and breaks, it can do serious damage to the heads and valves...right?

How much am I looking at to pay someone to change the belt? Is it a fairly expensive procedure?

Re: V6 Timing Belt Life Expectancy

Due at 105k. They tend to get a little loose at about 80-90k and make some noise. Supposedly they will bend valves if they break but I havent seen one do it. Go ahead and do the water pump, cam seals and t-belt tensioner while you're at it. Roughly $800-$1000 depending on the shop labor rate.

Re: V6 Timing Belt Life Expectancy

I had 205,000 on mine before I changed it. I would not recommend this. It is an easy enough job to do yourself if you are alittle handy and understand how things work. Yes it is a costly job to pay someone for. And yes it will cause serious damage.
