Re: F1 Rear Wheel on Ebay UK
He still has it mistakenly advertised as a GTR wheel?

Re: F1 Rear Wheel on Ebay UK
Could be a keyword thing - trying to pick up people who'd be searching for McLaren GTR and miss it otherwise, or general searches for "GTR" getting more eyes on it.

I might have some bad news for you on that.
And potentially some good news as well. >8^) ER |

Re: F1 Rear Wheel on Ebay UK
Yeah - so the bad news is that I had a friend in the UK meet up with the seller tonight and get the wheel for me as I didn't want to chance missing the opportunity again. We've been discussing this for a couple of days now as he had contacted the seller even before the second auction was listed. I suspect very shortly the current Ebay auction will be cancelled. The seller may decide to sell the one he has built as a display which you can see in one of the photos - but my guess is that he would relist that in a separate auction, probably with a Reserve or at least a higher starting bid.
Now the good news is that my friend picked up not one, but two of these wheels from the seller. Unfortunately neither one of them is in display condition right now so in the next few weeks both wheels are going to be refinished to perfection. When they're done he'll ship me mine and then the other one will probably be going up for sale. Since my friend is doing all the legwork I don't have any say in what happens with that second wheel but certainly when it is ready I will let you all know. >8^) ER |

Re: F1 Rear Wheel on Ebay UK
Thanks.
Not sure everyone will feel that way but I think most of us were all kicking ourselves for missing out on the first opportunity, whether it was timing or location or whatever. I just got lucky and with the help of a friend and an eager seller was able to do something about it. >8^) ER Last edited by Peloton25; 02-09-2012 at 11:49 AM. |

That there's a second wheel that will become available after refinishing.

Re: F1 Rear Wheel on Ebay UK
Yes, but it will be a far more desirable piece once it gets refinished.

Re: F1 Rear Wheel on Ebay UK
Hmm not sure about that, I would prefere it in as removed from the vehicle condition, albeit washed and cleaned naturally. Will loose it's patina totally after refurbishment.

Re: F1 Rear Wheel on Ebay UK
Some would - but I'll share some better photos of the original condition later and I think you will agree that they needed the refresh.
If it was a GTR wheel that had been driven in anger then I'd be all about preserving the war wounds. The only way a road car wheel ends up like this is due to poor care and handling. These appear to be rescued from someone's scrap pile. >8^) ER |
