Re: Latest progress on my street car.
As soon as I find a camera I'll get some footage. Car is waaaaaaayyyyyyyy more quiet now. But my pass side header is leaking at the flange, the dp band clamp is leaking, brake booster might be leaking vacuum. I am taking the timing from 25* up to 36* and setting the BTM at 2 probably to see what happens after I fix the exhaust.

Re: Latest progress on my street car.
Well heres an overdue update.
The car was running great until I had an ignition problem lol. I was driving down the road and got on it, it pull like no other, all I could do was hold on. I hasvent dynoed with the turbo yet but seat of the pants tell me 100hp/200tq over last year lol. Huge difference. Well I was coming to a stop and the car sputtered and died. Got out and found that 2 wires going to the dist. fell down on the drivers side header. I had everything ziptied back out of the way but I guess with the radiant heat the ziptie just let go. So, I cut out the burnt section, and spliced in new wire. Still no start. Changed the coil, still no start. I have spark but its weak. Looks like I'll be down until I can get another MSD6BTM box, I guess when the dist wires grounded out it killed the box. Here goes another $400 into the car.

Re: Latest progress on my street car.
That sucks! Good luck!
I know this could happen to anyone but, that's why when I get another Stang, it's going to be kept mild (350-400hp). You know how it goes, the more power you make the less reliable it is. Good luck 351. |

That issue could happen to any car that is N/A, Supercharged, or turboed The way David is building his, he is doing it right! Very streetable

Re: Latest progress on my street car.
Well after a new coil and magnetic pickup in the distributor she fired back up. Swapped fans and now its cooling a little better. Still running around 200* though.

Re: Latest progress on my street car.
Running a cougar fan, still I'd prefer it around 160-170.

Re: Latest progress on my street car.
Is it true? Could it be?
I'm seriously considering another blower. If it happens it will be a Vortech V2 SQ-trim @ ~8psi or so. I've done 14psi non-intercooled on pumpgas and blew a set of felpro's. So, to make the tune easier, the car more efficient, and the motor overall live I plan to keep the boost below 10psi non-intercooled on pumpgas. I would also be useing a C&S Aerosol Billet 850 blowthrue carb. I liked the driving characteristics of the blower better than the turbo. Now I just gotta be sure my tune is dead on before I let the tards at the dyno shop make a blast on the rollers. Also this year will be with a Tremec 3550.

Re: Latest progress on my street car.
Back to the blower... what ya think guys? Tony? Vortech SQ-trim for the silent but deadly touch? Or step up to the D-1SC? The D-1 is a ProCharger unit that is self contained, no taking oil away from my motor, no exessive heat in my oil, but it will be about as loud as an S-trim. But, much like the S-trim the D-1 should shut up with a little bit of throttle, that screeching racket at 2am could upset the neighbors.

Re: Latest progress on my street car.
My SQ is quite, but its not that quite.
Oil and heat are really only an issue if you are road racing, so I would go with your cheapest option

Re: Latest progress on my street car.
I can get a new D-1SC with all brackets ect, non intercooled, 12 rib, and p/s relocation kit for about $3,600 shipped. I had a hell of a time with radiant heat off the turbo. With the a/a intercooler my car ran 200* rather than 180*. Also the self contained prochargers run much cooler than engine oiled models so that would give lower IAT's making it easier to run non i/c on pump gas. I'll probably go with the D-1SC, its supposed to be quieter than an S but not as quiet as the SQ.
Is there a big difference in noise level going from the S to the SQ Tony? You had a regular S on your fox right?

Re: Latest progress on my street car.
Yes, there is a pretty big difference between the two. My fox engine was pretty loud, but you could here that whine of the S-trim pretty clearly
