Question How tight? steering shaft pinch bolt

Okay I removed the intermediate steering shaft to get to the spark plug on my 99 bravada now how tight do i tighten if I don't have torque wrench. The manual says 26 ft lbs. but I am afraid that I may have tightened it too much. It is already back together. Do I need to go back in and back it off a bit or do you think tighter is better?

Re: How tight? steering shaft pinch bolt

i assume your talking about the 11mm bolt that holds the shaft to the steering box. if you don't have a torque wrench, then you have to do it by feel. its better to have it tight then to have the shaft come off because the bolt backed out. if you think you over tightened it, back it off then snug it down again.
