Hydra

I want to share you the process of scratchbuilding of the 1/24 Hydra Schmidt Coupe as it was introduced in this thread .

At start, my brother Dmitry Petrenko has created a complete 3D model of the exterior by using of renders the original Daniel Simon's model which we have found in the Internet. As always, he used the Photomodeler and the CATIA program.

To be continued.

Re: Hydra

Thank you!

Let's continue. The 3D model was transformed for a scale model.

The 3D model of the interior was created by Daria Marenina.

The 3D model was finished and adapted to the scale model. There were added pins and holes with poke-yoke principle for the simple fitting of parts.

Then the front fenders were milled on a CNC and all the rest parts were printed on 3D-printers.

Re: Hydra

Thank you, Mikhail!
I will continue. Further, when all the parts were ready, it was necessary to prepare it for priming and painting:

As well, it was necessary to make all the clear details - the windshield and headlights. They were made of Plexiglas and blisters:

The next step is the painting and polishing of details:

All rivets and bolts were made and painted separately:

Footboards and handles are made from wire:

Once all details have been painted I could begin to assemble. Chrome on the details is made by using the foil BMF and black powder Kosutte.

And then, finally, the model is ready!

In 1/24 scale the model has very impressive size - 35 cm in length. All parts is perfectly sit in place and have a high degree of detailing.

I think we will be able to release a very limited edition of kits, if needed quantity of desirous people will be reached.
Please, inform me or Mikhail via PM if you are interested.

The foto of finished model is here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul....php?t=1141275

Best regards,
VM

Re: Hydra

Thanks guys for sharing this amazing build with us! It is fantastic to see how the modern modelling is done, from A to Z.
Could you give us more details about the 3D printing process? Like what kind of printer did you use, what resolution, material, if you used a public/online printing service or your own printer?

Re: Hydra

mwhh: Thank you!
I want to add an engine in my own copy. This engine will be included in each kit at the same price which we planned before. I will try to make an engine close to Auto Union Type C.
