Getting Back into Modelling!

Hi guys,
I am getting back into modelling, after a number of years absence (kids, work, lifestyle change etc etc..)
I have continued to buy kits, accessories and tools during this time, and I have a large stash like most people, but to be honest, I am a bit lost as to where to start in my return.
Modelling tastes are Racing cars(F1, LM & WRC), Exotic Supercars and I also like Civil Airliners (because they are usually glossy and graphic).

Obviously skills and techniques are rusty...lol!

Any ideas or hints from folks who have been in the same boat?
What about motivation etc?

Cheers
Nenad

Re: Getting Back into Modelling!

I have been in and out of the hobby many times. I think the only way to come back is to pick up a simple kit of a model that you like, but not the one you love the most. If I where in your place today (I build cars), IŽd pick a Silvia S13 from Tamiya (no engine, simple kit, it will fit perfectly like any Tamiya, and I like the car) and build it box stock, maybe adding little scratch parts, not hoping for the latest build on earth; and I wouldnŽt pick my Lexus LFA, which is very detailed, very large kit, very expensive, I love the actual car, and I expect it to be "my graduation build".

Also, maybe I would make it a quick build, trying not to get stuck with new techniques or crazy ideas. Just get back into the hobby. Then I would gradually start with the new tools, experiments, long term projects...

Hope this pushes you a bit

Re: Getting Back into Modelling!

Welcome back.

Marianitem suggestion to start with something easier that you like is the best. Modeling isn't like riding a bike and skill do get time to get back. I was away for over 5 years and even if the projet I'm doing right now is a little boring, I find myself fighting with some more advanced technique I once was good with.

Take your time and have fun!

Welcome back mate!

I'm sort like you in modeling, I even started to work on some easy tanks and planes before I can get back full to car modeling.

Re: Getting Back into Modelling!

Welcome back. Was in the same boat as you...I must admit the first kit I did took me quite
a while. Picked a Tamiya kit cos I knew it would go together without any fitment probs. but like Vric said, there were things I used do quite easily that are challenging now. nevertheless, I'm enjoying being back in it.
