89' ranger 2.3l 5 speed tranny swap

Hi guys and gals, I have a question for you ford ranger experts. I have a 1989 ford ranger 2.3l 5 speed pickup. The tranny went south. What I need to know is: will a 1987 ranger or mazda 5 speed tranny fit this truck? The one in the 89' has an integral bellhousing, the older ones do not. The bell housing pattern looks to be the same, though. The pilot shafts look to be the same, also. I know the driveshaft yolk is different...will an older ranger driveshaft fit it? Will the shifter fit? Basically, what will I have to do to make the older tranny fit this ranger? Thanks for you help, Glenn4357.
