03 Tribute tranny
Recently purchased 03 Tribute 4WD with 37k miles.
Tranny sometimes kicks when downshifting from 2nd to 1st. This happens when accelerating out of a turn onto another city street or when accelerating after slowing for a red light and having the light turn green before coming to a stop. Some days it never happens; other days it happens darn near every time. Sometimes the tranny just hesitates in shifting, other times the shift is quite jerky and a time or two has included a clunking sound. Any history with such a problem with this vehicle? Also the manual talks about the computer having to relearn shift points after disconnecting the battery and that shifts will be hard for a few hundred miles. Any chance it is still learning my driving habits? Otherwise, I love the vehicle. Bill |

Re: 03 Tribute tranny
My 01 has a downshift that is not smooth either. Don't think it is related, but it is not the smoothest tranny I have owned.
Changing the trans fluid might help, I was going to use a synthetic blend, but haven't gotten around to it yet. |
