Ridiculous fuel mileage...
I've heard that some engineers have been able to get over 100 mpg on an engine say like a V8. Now granted, it's only something I've heard, but if it were at all possible, does anyone know how they may have gone about that?
Something even more intriguing...and yes, more here-say, that Mr. Ford (or someone of his stature) once showed two boys how to take the way energy flows through an engine (or mechanical system) and flip it around...supposedly greatly increasing the efficiency of the engine. That's probably more off the deep end than my comment above, but I'm just curios if either in anyone's opinion are credible. Thanks. |

Re: Ridiculous fuel mileage...
Similar rumors have been around for decades.
Some conspiracy-minded people believe that mileage-enhancing devices have been supressed or kept secret by 'Big Oil' and/or the auto manufacturers. Like the rantings of many conspiracy-theorists, their arguments are irrational and groundless. Here is a good discussion on the subject. http://www.fuelsaving.info/conspiracy.htm |

Re: Ridiculous fuel mileage...
There are no secrets to great fuel economy.
It's simply a combination of the most efficient engine, best aerodynamics, best course and minimum power to get the job done. 100mpg is possible from a highly modified car on a closed course using a small engine running at peak efficiency (aka diesel). But not from a V8. The more cylinders you have, the more internal friction you have which reduces economy and efficiency. |
