why the hump through middle of rear passenger area
OK, mayeb I should get under my car and look, but my excuse is I'm at work right now.
Anyway, I can't believe I never noticed this before... I musta forgot. But, in my 2001, in the back seat area, there is that big hump in the foot area in the center. Why is that there? What's in that area? It seems to me like only rear-wheel drive cars (with front mounted engine) should have this. WTF>?! |

First, a middle hump adds a great deal to structural rigidity. Without the hump the chassis flex would be tremendous. Second, that is where your exhaust runs. Convenient.

On the P10 the hump was not for the exhaust it was for the drive shaft in the T4 all wheel drive model. In the P11 it is there for the structural rigidity and maybe the exhaust too. The P10 exhaust is not inside the hump, it's under it.
