95 Ford Contour Fan Problems
Hi everyone,
I have a 1995 Ford Contour with a 2.0 engine. I have changed my Coolant Temperature Sensor, but for some reason, my cooling fan will not come on unless I turn the air conditioner on. Has anyone had a similar problem, and if so, what did you do to fix it. If not, does anyone know how to fix it. Thanks. |

Re: 95 Ford Contour Fan Problems
Hello,
I saw your question, and I thought to myself I had that exact same problem. You changed you sensor, but is it the right one? I changed my sensor myself; the auto repair store gave me the wrong one. I took it to a mechanic, and they said it was the temp sensor. The sensor was telling the computer that the coolant was -20 degrees.... That is why the fan will not come on without the air conditioner..... The computer thinks the coolant is below zero.... I would go to the dealership and make sure you get the right part. I would also suggest you change it yourself..... Quote:

Re: 95 Ford Contour Fan Problems
on my 98 there are two sensors one is on top of the box where the thermostat goes the other is towards the bottom facing front. One is for the computer the other is for your temp gauge. Had to change both to get mine to work.

The Solution
For those who have had a similar problem, this is how I solved mine. There is a resistor in the bottom corner of the fan shrowd. It is very likely that it is gone bad. It is responsible for turning the fan on based on the voltage it receives from the temperature sensor. So, you see, it is very easy to be confused as to which is causing the problem. If you've replaced the sensor, and the problem still persists, the next cheapest route is to replace that resistor.
