I like my Corolla because a) it's one of the most reliable cars ever made, b) it was inexpensive, c) it's faster than the base model Focus, Civic, Accent and Rio, c) it's more reliable than the Civic, Focus, Neon, Accent, Rio, Cavalier, Sunfire, etc., and d) I think it looks good.

In Canada, the base model Impreza 2.5TS costs $21,995 vs. $15,290 for the base Corolla; that's a significant difference. Sure, I would have loved to get the Subaru, but after having purchased a condo less than 3 months before, I frankly couldn't afford it.

You can't compare the 1ZZ-FE VVT-i based Corollas with cars that easily outclass them, but they will outperform the other cars in their class, including the 127HP VTEC equipped 2002 Civics.
ouch, that price sucks!

and it looks like here we have another one of the corolla people who talk like they have a brain instead of just saying "f*ck you rollas rule"

welcome to af!

ahh if only i had taken a picture of the stock dodge neon with a mugen emblem on the back.

or the accord that was lowered on some bling bling wheels, had a "yamaha racing" windshield banner and an intake and exhaust and a trailer hitch pulling a small rusty boat

The other day I saw a Ford ZX2 with Honda SiR stickers and a TRD sticker on the back window.

Okay this is S2Corolla, not liquid8, I'm posting on my friends computer because I'm at his place.

First of all... Idelaysionl, I used to have respect for you and your car because in terms of AWD, you were going against the flow of traffic considering everyone thinks you need turbo and WRX on your back bumper to go fast in a Subaru. For the record, your car is nice, it's a good handling car and I will not say my Corolla is better. Now to my $ .02.

First of all, in my Corolla in stock form, I never lost to a SOHC Vtec, EVER... I dominate non-vtec SOHC Civic's, and in stock form, yes, I did get my a$$ handed to me by DOHC Vtec GSR's, but I gave moderate comp to B16A Civic Si's (99-00). After I got my cylinder head ported and polished and custom made an intake, I massacred modified, stock and hybrid SOHC Vtec's, and it was a drivers race between me and a slightly modified Civic Si or a stock GSR. Body roll can be compensated for by getting stiffer lowering springs and handling can be supplimented by upgrading the struts. I'll be honest, Duwayne, (BladesM3) made a big mistake with that post and the other guy made a mistake because those pictures he showed are of show cars. Oh and that silver 2001 Corolla on top with the aluminum wing, body kit and side decals ran 15.3 with just intake and full exhaust with no cat. No BS, he showed his timeslips. I wish I could run 15.3 but my driving skills aren't the greatest to say the least.

And idelasionl, posting that Corolla with the japanese decal is a little short-handed because there are more Civic's out there with Type R stickers and winshield washer nozzle lights than Corolla's. What I am trying to do, or I WAS trying to do was go against the flow of traffic in a good way, and take a fuel economical, safe car and turn it into a moderately performing car on the track and road course without the use of heavy modification or forced induction. This is not because I THINK the Corolla is a fast performing car or because I hate Honda. I love Honda/Acura, Subaru and Toyota all equally the same. It's because when I had to buy a new car because my Mustang 5.0 was on it's last legs, I didn't have the benefit of buying a used car or going to a bigger city to get a used Honda. I would've wanted a GSR or a loan to get a 92-95 Civic coupe for a project car, but Toyota was the nearest dealership and having poor credit only allowed me so much. My friend bought a 2001 2 door EX coupe 5 speed, and to say the least, I came out with a better deal. He bought an AEM cold air intake, DC sports 4-2-1 header, and custom cat-back exhaust with a 2" drop, and in stock form I still beat him by a car length, and he IS a good driver.

Yes, in stock form the Corolla does have crappy body-roll and handling, but it's no excuse to flame the Corolla as a beneficial project car at all. A car is a car, and with the right modification any car can perform like a hero on the track or course. So please watch the way you say things.

okay, well man, i didnt post that pic to say that corollas are all riced out or anything, i just happened to see it and this corolla thread was going on at the same time, so it just seemed to fit. yeah there are a lot more hondas like that, but i didnt see them that weekend. i do have respect for a fast corolla, thats cool, taking an economy car and wasting sports cars. but in my original post in this thread, i was referring to a stock 2001 corolla.

if it makes u feel better, here are my rice sightings from this weekend. no corollas, i havent seen any rice corollas since that pic 2 months ago.

1st, the accord who cut his springs REALLY far, and had "accord type r" stickers on the side

then, the escort that had cut springs, and random body parts painted white, presumably to make people think he bought a body kit. the 3 different sets of foglights arent visible in this pic

finally, the best. it doesnt look TOO ricey, till the guy claimed he had 235hp. how, we asked, did u get that much power. his reply: "a header and a racing fuel line". we looked under the hood, no header, and im not exactly sure what a "racing fuel line" is or how it makes power...

wait till i finally get pics of the elusive "rice mustang". i dont think there is a person here that wont laugh at it. big terminator 2 spoiler, racing stripes, and a "gt-r" badge from a nissan skyline, just to name a few of the things on it. its pretty bad when u drive a mustang gt and import drivers call u ricey!

Dude, I've seen the King of the Rice Lords... This guy had a bonestock 240SX 1992 model with the 2.4l engine, 5 speed, with cut springs. He had a Batman sticker on his front winshield and a sticker that said "BATMAN" on the back of his car above his taillights. He had a stocker that said "Powered by NISMO" on the side of his car, yellow winshield washer blades and Batman seat covers, and his license plate frame said "Bruce Wayne" even though his real name is Manuel.

But wait there's more. I pulled next to the guy to talk to him, and it just so happened he knew who my friend was. My friend Santos, who drives a 2001 Integra GSR with Ground Control Coilovers, Koni adjustable shocks(struts?), AEM Cold Air, DC Sports JDM Integra Type R header, Tanabe exhaust, AEM Cam Gears, spark plugs and wires... Well this guy claimed he beat my friend Santos, on the FREEWAY... Now for one thing... Santos wasted me a couple of weeks ago by about 2 1/2 car lengths. He pulls on the freeway on me, pretty badly, and he knows how to drive pretty good. You could hear his second gear chirp from four blocks down. I raced this 240sx light to light and I smoked him by like 2 1/2 car lengths, without peeling out from the start.

Corrolla SR5

I am a proud owner of a 1989 Toyota SR5, and just wanted to also defend older Toyota's. My car handles exceptionaly well stock. After I ran my tires to the point where they were going to fall off I decided to spend 40$ a tire and replace the older ones. Honestly it made such a big difference, I can't believe it. Anyway back to the point, the SR5 and GT-S (which are almost the same) are great cars. I am sorry that many people disagree that Toyotas can't be good cars.

By the way, since I have owned my car the only thing that needed to be done so far is putting gas in it. (and the tires)
