Ferrari 458 Wheel Alignment Specs...
In the following link, please observe the specs for "Caster":
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...gnment+data%3F Notice anything unusual about those specs - other than they seem sort of conservative for a 6-figure sports coupe? In addition, found these for a recent Lotus Evora: ============================= FRONT SUSPENSION Type Independent. Upper and lower lightweight forged alloy wishbones; co-axial coil spring/telescopic damper unit; tubular anti-roll bar Geometry Mid-laden ride height (2 x 75 kg occupants + full fuel tank) set car to this height before measuring geometry: - front 125 mm below front end of chassis siderail - rear 147 mm below rear end of chassis siderail Castor - optimum: + 5.2° - tolerance range: + 5.0° to + 5.5°; max. side/side 0.3° Camber - optimum: - 0.3° - tolerance range: - 0.5° to - 0.2°; max. side/side 0.2° Alignment - optimum: Zero - tolerance range: 0.5 mm toe-out, to 0.5mm toe-in overall Steering axis inclination: 9.4° nominal REAR SUSPENSION Type Independent. Upper and lower lightweight forged alloy wishbones; co-axial coil spring/telescopic damper unit; tubular anti-roll bar Geometry Mid-laden ride height (2 x 75 kg occupants + full fuel tank) set car to this height before measuring geometry: - front 125 mm below front end of chassis siderail - rear 147 mm below rear end of chassis siderail Camber - optimum: - 1.6° - tolerance range: - 1.8° to - 1.5°; max. side/side 0.2° Alignment - optimum: 1.5 mm toe-in each side - tolerance range: 1.4 to 1.8 mm toe-in each side; max. side/side 0.3 mm Thrust angle - optimum: Zero - tolerance: 0.05° __________________ 2011 Lotus Evora 2+2 ============================================ Pretty milquetoast looking specs - again - for a car that costs more than most typical suburban 3-bedroom 1.5 bath split-levels. Considering a 2008 CTS possesses very similar caster specs, it seem the caddy could handle just as well as the Evora - but they ruined that car with over-boosted power steering!! Which leads me to the theory that *any* car can be made more "Lotus-Like" simply by installing a lower-pressure(or lower voltage if electric) power-steering pump, upgrading from S-rated to H- or V-rated tires, and installing firmer bushings! It's all sales & marketing folks - all sales & marketing. There's no mystery about what makes one car handle better than another. Just strike that perfect balance between materials, specs, and amount of power-steering assist at what speeds, and even a 2005 Chevy Cobalt can carve it's own name on the backroads. LOL! |
