91 S10 2.8L runs rich and puffs BLACK smoke

I have a 91 s10 with a 2.8L 5spd (2wd) that runs quite rich and puffs black smoke when I shift under hard accel. And the exuast smells verry gassy. It seems to have plenty of power maybe a lil low.But it also gets BAD gas milage

Re: 91 S10 2.8L runs rich and puffs BLACK smoke

well it seems to be clearing up, the exuast no longer smells like gas, I changed the plugs and 2 looked like they got hit with a hammer (didnt happen in the engine) so that was part if it. But the exuast still smells rich. Could the computer just need time to reset or what I have 1/4 tank run out so far and I put some heet (water remover) in the gas and some injector cleaner. Should I just wait a tank and see if it clears up?

That sort of damage to the plugs is an indication of hard detonation (excessive pinging during acceleration or under load).

Check your air filter to make sure it's not plugged up.
